Smart NaMo - Android smart phone in the name of Narendra Modi

namo_smartphone.jpg
A group, claiming to be "independent body of fans of Shri Narendra Modi", has launched the Namo Android smartphone that will be available 'soon'.
Namo, is short of course for Narendra Modi, the Chief Minister of Gujarat, and Chairman of Central Election Campaign Committee of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), one of India's leading political parties. Namo is also, the group shares, short for, Next-generation Android Mobile Odyssey, as the Namo phone is based on Android.
Explaining the motivation in releasing the phone, the group says on its website, "We are fans of Shri, Narendra Modi, our forthcoming future leader of our great nation India, we are manufacturing latest Android handset dedicated to the IRONMAN of modern India."
The website is scant on details about Namo, the smartphone, though it does mention some of the specifications. Namo will sport a 5-inch Corning Glass 2 display and be powered by a 1.5GHz quad-core Mediatek MT6589 chipset. It will have a 13-megapixel camera. The phone will supposedly come in 4 variants, with the amount of RAM and internal storage varying between 1-2GB and 16-64GB respectively. There's no word yet on the price or availability of Namo smartphone.
To be clear, it seems what the group plans to do is import off-the-shelf smartphones from China to rebrand and market them, similar to what many other Indian smartphone brands are already doing. Will the group be around to service the Namo smartphone if and when it runs into issues is anyone's guess.
"We are from land of Gujarat & in electronic smartphone business in China," the group says. "Our product is our way of dedication & respect to our great nation leader. We will be launching NAMO Android handset with Shri Narendra Modi "signature edition", for which process in under way! We will launch our handset very soon... for updates please see our FB page."

AOSP 4.3 for non-nexus phones

First AOSP 4.3 Build for a Non-Nexus Device
You weren’t able to set foot on the Interwebs for the past 48 hours without being bombarded by a never ending stream of news about Chromecast, the new Nexus 7, and of course the updated software it will be running, Android 4.3. As with any update to the Android OS, the usual clamor for factory images and race to bring the update to other Nexus devices has been as frenzied as always. However, it’s not only Nexus devices that are able to take advantage of the latest AOSP updates.
Thanks to a combination of Sony Mobiles efforts to be the Good Guy Greg of Android OEMs and XDA Developer Admin pulser_g2Sony Xperia Z users can now get a feel for “stock” Android 4.3 on their device. The build is compiled by adding the Sony repository to AOSP 4.3, and as with other Sony AOSP releases, there is no functional radio included. Therefore, no calls/SMS/mobile data (this can be rectified though if you know what you’re doing, and that’s all I have to say about that). For this reason, the build is provided as a fastboot image and not a flashable zip. This is compiled for and tested solely on the C6603, so don’t go throwing this at another model and expecting it to stick.
Obviously, without a radio this isn’t going to be your daily driver. However, it’s certainly worth a look if you want to check out the latest update and don’t have a Nexus device laying around. Check out the development thread for more information.

Android 4.3.How to get it now

Android 4.3 rolling out to Google's Nexus devices:android-4.3-site.jpg
Google unveiled the second generation Nexus 7 tablet with Android 4.3 Jelly Bean at an event in San Francisco on Wednesday. The update is an incremental one when it comes to user facing changes, but brings a number of new features under the hood.

While the updated OS will ship with the new Nexus 7 tablet, Google has announced that it has started rolling out the Android 4.3 update to Nexus devices including the original Nexus 7 tablet, the Nexus 10 tablet, and Nexus 4 and Galaxy Nexus smartphones.

The update will be available over the air through the Settings menu on the devices. It will roll out gradually and it could take weeks before it reaches all devices. Our Galaxy Nexus smartphone has not received the update, at the time of writing this post.

You can also force your device to check for updates by going to the Apps menu from the Settings, and finding the Google Services Framework app. You can then tap on 'Clear data' and 'Force stop' options and check for the update again from the About settings menu. This doesn't harm your device in any way and is a completely safe option. However, it's not guaranteed that you'll get the update after performing these steps.

For the more adventurous, the full factory images of Android 4.3 are also available through the Android Open Source Project online, on the Google Developers website. However, you'll need to flash these images manually using special tools and unless you're pretty sure of what you're doing, we'd recommend waiting for the official update to hit your device.

Hugo Barra, Vice President of Android product management at Google also announced that the stock Android Google editions of the Samsung Galaxy S4 and the HTC One would receive the update as well, though he did not specify a timeline.

Motorola to unveil New Moto X

Motorola’s first major release under Google’s ownership looms near as the company recently sent out media invitations to an August 1 event in New York. Unlike cryptic invitations from Apple that are open to interpretation, Motorola made no effort to hide what they plan to reveal on the first of the month – the Moto X smartphone.
One source claiming to have used the handset told The Verge it features a display that’s roughly 4.5-inches in size and is powered by a dual-core 1.7GHz Snapdragon MSM8960T processor, 2GB of system memory and has a removable Kevlar rear shell. Additional rumors from around the web point to 16GB of internal flash memory, a front-facing 2-megapixel camera and a 10-megapixel rear camera – all running Android Jelly Bean 4.2.2.
As you can probably tell by the specs, the device isn’t exactly a powerhouse. Instead, Motorola is expected to push the customizable smartphone as a more affordable alternative to other handsets like the Galaxy Note 2, iPhone 5 and the Galaxy S4.
Many believe Motorola will rely on innovative software features as a key selling point for the phone. There are several reports of an “always-on” listening mode which will recognize voice commands after the user says “OK Google Now.” It’s worth mentioning that this feature will be disabled by default for privacy concerns.
Other software features include the ability to launch the camera app with the flick of your wrist and a summary of recent notifications when you pick up the phone after it has been idle for a while.

Mozilla revelas Firefox OS

Mozilla has revealed its plans to hold quarterly feature releases that will be available to partners, along with six-weekly security updates for the previous two feature releases.
The announcement posted on Mozilla's official blog states, "As far as I know, that's the most aggressive mobile OS release strategy out there (and may still require some tweaking).
Firefox OS was announced at CES 2013 back in January as a low-cost competitor to Android.
Mozilla revealed that the new Firefox OS would be available on two smartphones, Keon and Peak, allowing developers to test it out.
Earlier this year, Mozilla offered developers the opportunity to receive the Geeksphone Keon in order to start creating apps.
The new rapid release schedule will match up with Mozilla's current timing for releases on Firefox, which has released new versions of both Firefox for desktop and Firefox for Android every 1.5 months.
According to Engadget, users with a Geeksphone - running on Firefox OS - can now manually upgrade their devices to Firefox 1.1.
The update is rumoured to bring faster boot times, bug fixes and minor improvements to navigation and display.
It is unclear when Firefox OS v2.0 will become available.

HTC ONE MINI

The general rule among Android phones the last few years has been, “bigger is better.”
But the winds are changing. Today, HTC announced the HTC One mini, a smaller version of the gorgeous HTC One, itself one of the best-designed phones on the market and a current Wired Top 3 pick.
Compromises had to be made to shrink the 4.7-inch HTC One into the 4.3-inch HTC One Mini (which, by the way, is still bigger than an iPhone 5.) For starters, the screen’s been downgraded from 1080p to 720p. The processor is a dual-core Snapdragon 400, instead of the quad-core inside its big brother. And yes, the battery is smaller in both size and capacity.
But the HTC One Mini retains the beautiful aluminum finish and fantastic build quality that was the primary selling point of the HTC One. Only now it comes in a size that you can actually fit into your jeans. If we’re lucky, this will start a trend among smartphone makers and they’ll realize better doesn’t have to mean bigger.
The phone will be available in August.

HTC One mini features

  • General: Quad-band GSM/GPRS/EDGE, quad-band UMTS/HSPA, LTE
  • Form factor: Touchscreen bar phone
  • Dimensions: 132x 63.2 x 9.3 mm, 122 g
  • Display: 4.3" 16M-color 720p (720 x 1280 pixels) Super LCD 2 capacitive touchscreen, 341ppi pixel density; Corning Gorilla Glass 3
  • Chipset: Qualcomm Snapdragon 400, Dual-core 1.4 GHz Krait 300, 1GB RAM, Adreno 305
  • OS: Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean with Sense 5
  • Memory: 16GB storage
  • Camera: 4 megapixel auto-focus camera with ultra-pixels; LED flash
  • Video camera: Full HD (1080p) video recording at 30fps with HDR

New Apple products in 2013

IOS 7
wwdc 1
Tim Cook began his talk about Apple's mobile operating system by saying the company didn't just want to sell the most devices but make gadgets people "actually use and love the most." He then unveiled a totally new version of the firm's mobile OS, dubbed iOS 7, which got a standing ovation from the crowd. (One audience member shouted out "We love you!" as Cook took the stage after a video presenting the concepts behind the new OS.)
The design eschews the so-called skeuomorphic design -- in which software looks like the real-world objects it represents -- that was favored by Steve Jobs and the ousted Scott Forstall. Instead, the system presents a much more flat and colorful design. In fact, the system is all new from the bottom up, looking very little like predecessors. From the fonts to the app icons, the entire OS looks much cleaner and simpler. Apple  showed off a new Safari web browser and weather app, among others. Siri is getting two new voices -- one male and one female -- along with more features for use in a car. Perhaps one of the most impressive new elements is the way the design attempts to create depth. For example, if a user tilts their device slightly, the background wallpaper stays fixed while the app icons shift slightly, creating a 3D effect. iOS 7 will be available this fall.
ITunes Radio
wwdc 6
Apple unveiled iTunes Radio, a streaming music service similar to Spotify and Google Play. The company's Eddie Cue demonstrated how users could create playlists based off personal preferences, as well as how to select previously curated lists. The service works on Apple Macs and Windows PCs, as well as iPads, iPhones, and iPods. Much like Pandora, iTunes Radio will be free with ads. iTunes Match subscribers get the service free of ads.
MAC PRO

It had been a while since users of Apple's top-of-the-line desktops had something truly new to cheer. A very long while: the current "cheese grater" design dates back to before Apple made the switch to Intel-based CPUs in 2006. So it was a treat to meet an all-new design for the desktop line. "This product is so cool," said Apple's Phil Schiller, "I'm going to go over the top." Then the lights dimmed and a dramatic video introduced the radical new design.
Taking up one-eighth the volume of current Mac Pros, the new machines are black and cylindrical. They look like a cross between a trash can and a bear canister -- but much sleeker. "Can't innovate anymore my ass," Schiller said to raucous applause before unspooling an impressive list of technical specifications. He didn't reveal a price, but said the machines would be made in the USA and become available later this year.

Mac OS X Mavericks
wwdc 2
Apple joked that it was starting to run out of big cats to name its desktop OS's after. Making a pun on the latest, Mountain Lion, executives joked that the name "Sea Lion" just didn't seem quite right somehow. Instead, the next decade of OS's will be named after spots in California, where Apple is headquartered. First up? OS X Mavericks, named after surfing spot off the coast known for its massive waves.
The next version of the system -- due out this fall -- is focused on improving "power and performance." Demos showed off speedy and smooth scrolling as well as a dramatically faster version of the Safari web browser. Other improvements include tabbed finder windows, file tagging, and a much better implementation of multiple displays for power users. The company is including a desktop version of its Maps application that can beam directions directly to a user's iPhone. Apple will also be releasing a version of the iBooks bookstore on its desktops and laptops.

MacBook Air
wwdc 3
Promising all-day battery life, Apple showed off new ultra-thin and light MacBook Airs. The new laptops are based on Intel's so-called Haswell CPUs, which draw much less power. The new 11-inch model, for example, is going from five hours of battery life to nine; the larger 13-inch model is going from seven hours currently to 12. Prices start at $999, and the devices will be available immediately.

Your Next Smartphone Screen Will Read Your Fingerprints

It’s no secret that smartphone security is a bad joke. Most users either have no password at all or they have a simple line pattern that’s easy to guess. Even alphanumeric passwords aren’t that hard to crack. Enter the fingerprint reader. Apple recently purchased AuthenTec’s embedded security division so it can bring biometric logins to the iPhone. Now, Validity Sensors, a company which supplies fingerprint readers to laptop makers such as Hewlett Packard, wants to bring its technology to Android and other smartphones.
At CES last week, Validity Director of Technical Marketing Dough Vargha showed off a Samsung Android phone that had been specially modified to include a fingerprint sensor underneath the glass. In just one swipe, Vargha was able to log in to the Android phone.

Validity Fingerprint Reading Technology
“Not only does that provide a simple user experience, [but] it also is high security,” he told us. “It’s easy to hack a four-digit PIN, but a fingerprint belongs to you and you only.”
Vargha explained that fingerprint authentication, which Validity calls “Natural Login,” will be used not only to log into a device, but also to validate ecommerce transactions. So, even after you’ve already unlocked your phone, you may need to reauthenticate to confirm a purchase or a money transfer from a bank. Ultimately, the security will be up to the bank or store, but forcing you to swipe your finger again should help limit fraud even further.
Validity Fingerprint Reader
In addition to placing its sensor under the phone’s front glass, Validity can also turn a hardware home button into the fingerprint reader. So, if your phone has a large home button like the one found on the LG Optimus L9, that button can double as a sensor.

Validity has yet to announce any mobile partners, but the company hopes to start integrate its technology into top-tier smartphones in the near future.
